UTSA Biology Professor Awarded $300K NSF Grant
Fidel Santamaria, associate professor of biology in the UTSA College of Sciences, is one of 36 researchers in the nation selected to receive a two-year $300,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) Early Concept Grant for Exploratory Research (EAGER). The funding supports President Obama's BRAIN Initiative, a federal effort to support researchers to create new technology that will demystify complex brain processes.
Faculty and student researchers in the Department of Biology make medical discoveries, develop new technologies, and improve the quality of life. The department’s research programs are supposed through public and private sources. The Department of Biology hosts a number of research centers and institutes that focus on Cell Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Neurobiology, and Plant Biology.
