Research Opportunities for Students

Independent study and directed research projects are available for all levels of students relating to hippocampal function, synaptic integration, neuronal excitability, neurodegeneration, and aging.  Students in the laboratory have the opportunity, depending on experience, to learn organotypic slice culture, confocal microscopy, two-photon microscopy, extracellular field potential recording, histology, dendritic reconstruction, computational modeling of neuronal biophysics and neural networks, fluorescence calcium imaging, whole-cell patch-clamp recording, and cell-attached patch-clamp recording methods as tools for investigating hippocampal neuron and network function.
