LIFE SCIENCES EDUCATION FACULTY POSITION

The Department of Biology at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in Life Sciences Education, preferably at the Associate/Full Professor level starting Fall of 2010 pending budget approval. Successful applicants for this position should have experience in teaching and research in Life Sciences education, preferably in a large classroom environment.  The applicant will be expected to carry out a successful research program in undergraduate science education.  Responsibilities may include teaching and curriculum development and course redesign of lecture and laboratory curricula for introductory and other courses central to the biology degree, outreach activities in the educational community and development of a science teacher training program. Required qualifications include a doctoral degree in Biology or Life Sciences education or a related field and academic achievement in Life Science education.  The Department offers the Ph.D., M.S., B.S., and B.A. degrees in biology.  Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Faculty Ad Position(s) in Stem Cell Research at the University of Texas at San Antonio

The Department of Biology and the San Antonio Institute for Cellular & Molecular Primatology (SAICMP) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) are seeking outstanding candidates for one or more tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in stem cell research (pending budgetary approval).  Rank is open.  These positions will join a growing stem cell research group focused on aspects of stem cell biology, tissue engineering and regeneration in humans, nonhuman primates and other model organisms including rodents or lower species.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  The successful applicant will have a Doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent) in Biology or a related discipline. Applicants at Assistant Professor level will require relevant postdoctoral experience and demonstrated potential for excellence in stem cell research.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with somatic stem cells, especially neurological or mesenchymal stem cells, although experience with other types of stem cells will also be considered.  An applicant at the Associate Professor level will require all of the above plus an established research program with a record of extramural funding.  An applicant at the Full Professor level will require all of the above plus a distinguished record of sustained funding and productivity as well as leadership in the field of stem cell research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position will include a primary appointment in the Department of Biology at UTSA, with the option to become a member of the SAICMP.  The successful applicant will be expected to establish and/or maintain a productive, externally funded individual research program, to participate in collaborative research activities with other members of the SAICMP and/or other investigators at UTSA, and to participate in academic and service activities at UTSA based on standard UTSA policies for all faculty members.
